Many health advocates are stating that juice is not a healthy option for kids. Most juice has an extremely high sugar content. Drinking juice can effect the proper water consumption for kids and impact their appetites for important nutrients in food. Grazing on juice throughout the day can drastically increase tooth decay in kids. Do you have to eliminate juice altogether? There are some recommendations to help you make your decision.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Serve kids 100% juice, with no added sugar, high fructose corn syrup or other artificial sweeteners.

  2. Step 2

Serve kids juice in moderation. Consider limiting juice to breakfast only or as a special treat on the weekends. For very young children, dilute the juice with water and limit the serving size.

  3. Step 3

Serve kids whole fruit instead of juice. Whole fruit contains more antioxidants, nutrients, and fiber than juice. Fruit is also more filling and will help avoid the over-consumption that often occurs with juice.
