The Grapefruit Diet may not sound like the healthiest diet out there, but if you want to lose weight quickly, it's easy, effective, and safe. Research has shown the grapefruit diet lowers insulin levels, causing dieters to feel full faster and for longer periods of time. Although scientists do not know exactly why, a special ingredient found in grapefruit improves weight loss dramatically. Follow this diet and expect to lose about 10 pounds in 10 days.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • low carb / no carb foods
  • grapefruit
  • grapefruit juice
  1. Step 1

To begin the Grapefruit Diet, eat a breakfast consisting of 2 eggs, 1 piece of bacon or sausage, and half a grapefruit, or one glass (8 oz.) of grapefruit juice. (The juice may not be sweetened, even with artificial sweeteners for the duration of the diet.)

  2. Step 2

For lunch, eat a green salad (no starchy vegetables) with red pepper and cucumber, and as much chicken, steak, or fish as you would like. Use any salad dressing that is low in sugar and carbs. Again, add in half of a grapefruit or the 8 oz. of juice.

  3. Step 3

At dinnertime, you can have unlimited beef, chicken, and fish, and two cups of non-starchy vegetables. Feel free to cook with butter or oil, but use it sparingly. The Grapefruit Diet requires that you have half a grapefruit or 8 oz. glass of grapefruit juice at each meal, so be sure to eat/drink some at every meal, including dinner.

  4. Step 4

Snack once per day, after dinner (so the grapefruit is in your system.) Stick to a handful of nuts or seeds, or 2 oz. of cheese.

  5. Step 5

Follow the Grapefruit Diet regimen for 10 days. If you want to lose additional weight, take 2 days off, and then continue for an additional ten days.

Tips & Warnings
  • The grapefruit is the key, you can't skip it.
  • This diet is not recommended for long term. It is only intended for small amounts of weight loss.
