Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Anti Depression Niacin (B3)

Niacin or B3, supports the release of energy from foods and supports mental health. Foods that are rich in niacin include: liver, poultry, lean meats, fish, nuts, peanut butter, whole wheat, avocados, dates, figs and prunes

  2. Step 2

    Anti Depression Riboflavin (B2)

A deficiency of riboflavin can lead to symptoms of depression. B2 is necessary for the functioning and growth of body tissue and aids in proper nerve function. Those at risk for B2 deficiency include people taking oral contraceptives. Foods rich in riboflavin are: organ meats, cheese, yogurt, eggs, almonds, and green leafy vegetables.

  3. Step 3

    Anti Depression Pyridoxine (B6)

The majority of those diagnosed with depression also show Vitamin B6 deficiencies. Pyridoxine is necessary for the production of serotonin. Deficiency is of B6 is also quite common in those taking birth control. Vitamin B6 deficiency is often due to inability to absorb the vitamin correctly. Supplementation of B6 often works well in addition to ensuring a diet rich in B6 foods. These foods include: brown rice and other whole grains (yet another benefit to eating whole grains!), lean meats, poultry, fish, bananas, avocados, and nuts.

  4. Step 4

    Anti Depression Folic Acid (B12)

Only a mild lack of folic acid can produce irritability, loss of memory, fatigue, and depression. Folic acid, combined with a form of the amino acid methionine, are known as SAM a commonly used supplement to fight depression. Foods naturally rich in folic acid include: dark green leafy vegetables, beans, oranges, avocado, and strawberries.

  5. Step 5

    Anti Depression Biotin (B15)

Biotin is another vitamin that converts food to energy and is required for the proper metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids, and proteins. Biotin is naturally occurring in the following foods: cheese, kidney, fish, sunflower seeds, nuts, broccoli and sweet potatoes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are suffering from depression it is also important to ensure you are getting enough vitamin C & E in addition to the B vitamins listed above!
