Although uncomfortable, occasional constipation seldom signals a serious medical condition. If dealing with hard or infrequent stools, consider home remedies to treat constipation.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Apple juice
  • Laxatives
  • Fiber
  1. Step 1

Buy fiber supplements. Vegetables, fruits and whole grains include fiber, and these foods are necessary for regular, soft stools. Treat constipation by incorporating these foods into your diet, or supplement with fiber capsules.

  2. Step 2

Grab some apple juice. Pure apple juice is a good source of fiber, and this beverage provides quick relief from constipation.

  3. Step 3

Drink water. Replace sodas, alcohol and caffeinated drinks with water. Drink at least eight glasses a day to treat constipation and promote regular stools.

  4. Step 4

Go for a walk. Physical activity encourages bowel movements, and regular exercise is a natural way to treat constipation. Exercise for 30 minutes three to five times a week to maintain your digestive health.

  5. Step 5

Take a laxative--as a last resort. If other methods fail, take an over-the-counter stool softener or laxative to encourage a bowel movement and relieve constipation.
