How to Steamed Mussels

This is a simple recipe to steam mussels. It does not take long and you do not need that many ingredients.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 7 lbs Mussels in shells
  • 3 oz Shallots or onions chopped fine
  • 6 Parsley stems
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 Cup white wine
  • 1/4 C Chopped parsley
  • 3 oz Butter
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Lemon Juice
  1. Step 1

    First scrub the mussels well with a stiff brush and remove the beards. Clean them well by soaking them.

  2. Step 2

    Then place the mussels in a stockpot or large sauce pot. Add the shallots or onions, parsley stems, pepper and the wine.

  3. Step 3

    Cover the pot and set it over moderately high heat. Cook until the mussels open up. This will take about 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Drain the mussels and strain the liquid through the cheese cloth into a broad saucepan. Bring it to a boil.

  5. Step 5

    Add the parsley and butter. Swirl the liquid in the pan until the butter is melted. Season to taste with salt and a few drops of the lemon juice.

  6. Step 6

    For presentation, remove the top shells of the mussels. Place the mussels in broad soup plates and pour sauce over them.
