Instructions

    • 1

Use a hammer and chisel to remove all loose and damaged stucco. All of the stucco must be solidly attached to the wall. Any hollow sounding or flaking spots need to be repaired. Clean all of the debris that has fallen on the ground.

    • 2

Buy all the materials. A home improvement store will have everything you need. Buy sanded glass block mortar instead of stucco cement. Glass block mortar is a high bonding mortar. Once dry it is harder than stucco mud. It also does not crumble or turn to powder no matter how thin it is applied. It is a far superior product.

    • 3

Spray the area that needs stucco repair with water. The mortar will bond better to wet concrete. Fill one bucket with water. Squeeze one sponge full of water into the other bucket. Fill the bucket approximately half way with mortar. Add water while stirring until the mixture has the same consistency as toothpaste.

    • 4

Push the wet mortar into the area that needs to be patched. Use a flat float for this. It is important to apply heavy pressure to the wet cement. Apply enough mortar so that it is slightly raised above the existing stucco.

    • 5

Use a sponge to blend the wet stucco into the old. You want the new stucco smooth, flat and level with the flat part of the old stucco. Let the wet stucco dry for at least half an hour.

    • 6

Add a little bit of water to the left over stucco mix. Mix it completely. Dip a stiff bristle brush in the mortar. Shake the brush at the wall. With a trowel lightly smooth the textured stucco mix. Blend it into the old stucco. If the texture does not match then wipe it off and try again. If you do not have a brush then make little balls with your fingers. Toss the little balls of cement onto the flat surface. Then press the balls with a trowel to match the old texture. This takes practice.

Let the patched stucco dry. Paint an area larger than the patch. Blend the new paint into the old.

Tips & Warnings

  • wear disposable gloves when working with wet cement.
