Design creepy-crawly cupcakes perfect for a Halloween party. All you need are a few simple ingredients, a little time, and a ghoulish imagination to create these spooky spider treats.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • one chocolate cupcake mix or chocolate cake mix
  • cupcake foil
  • muffin tin
  • one can vanilla icing
  • one tube chocolate or black icing
  • one bag of licorice sticks
  • one tube red icing
  • one package regular Oreos
  • one package mini Oreos
  • one large dark chocolate bar or one bag of dark chocolate chips
  • wax paper
  1. Step 1

Mix your chocolate cupcakes according to the package. Line your muffin tins with cupcake foils, then pour in the batter and bake.

  2. Step 2

When your cupcakes are cool, add the vanilla icing to the top.

  3. Step 3

Use your tube of black or chocolate icing, or a bag and pipe tool, to pip a web-like design over the top of each of your cupcakes using intersecting lines.

  4. Step 4

Melt your dark chocolate in a saucepan, being careful to keep it from burning. Dip the large and small oreos into the chocolate -- one of each for each cupcake. Make sure each cookie is thoroughly coated in chocolate on at least one side.

  5. Step 5

Lay the cookies on wax paper to dry. When the chocolate is hard, then place one large dipped Oreo in the middle of each cupcake. Place one smaller Oreo in front of it, forming an "eight". This will be each spider's body and head.

  6. Step 6

Use the red icing to pipe an hourglass design on each large Oreo for a "black widow" effect.

  7. Step 7

Unbraid your licorice into thin strips. Bend and shape to form spider "legs" and place four each on either side of your Oreos.

  8. Step 8

Add two little red dot "eyes" to the heads of your Black Spider Cupcakes. Place your finished cupcakes on a decorative platter and serve!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can substitute chocolate-covered mints for the mini Oreos if desired.
