Instead of throwing out those empty jelly, baby food or spaghetti jars; how about repurposing them into food storage containers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Empty Jars from Jelly, Spaghetti Sauce and Baby Food
  • Warm soapy water
  • Sponge or wash rag
  1. Step 1

When you have used up the contents of your jars and are ready to throw them out, don't. Instead quickly rinse them out and place them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. Allow them to sit a little while, this will make removing paper labels and adhesive very easy.

  2. Step 2

Once you have cleaned your jars thoroughly, place them upside down on a towel or in the dish drainer to dry. You will want to make sure the insides are completely dry before adding food to them. Now that they are dry, decide on what to store in them. You can put macaroni, rice, dry beans, cereal, sugar, flour or whatever you like.

  3. Step 3

The smaller baby food jars are excellent for storing dried spices and herbs. You can label the metal lids or jars themselves with a marker, stickers, labels made from on your label maker or just use plain old masking tape. Once your jars are filled you can either tuck them away inside your cabinets and pantries or you can leave a few out on the counter as decorative items.

  4. Step 4

Repurposing glass jars into food storage containers will save you time and money. With just a glance you will know how much of a food item you have and what you will need to purchase in the near future and you won't be spending a ton of money on those expensive food storage containers.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also use the baby food jars as nuts, screws and bolt containers in the garage.
  • Gallon sized pickle jars are great for storing Bulk items.
  • When washing your jars out be careful not to put your hands inside, you can get it stuck or the glass can break and injure you; use a bottle cleaner instead.
