Whether winter or summer, one thing that every person should have in their car is a first aid kit. But since emergencies on the road can be far more inconvenient than ones at home, you need to have more than just a basic first aid kit or emergency kit. Here are some items that you need to include that will turn any first aid kit into an emergency survival kit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blankets
  • non-perishable food
  • first aid kit
  • bottled water
  • jumper cables or battery car starter
  • Oil
  • Antifreeze
  • Flat tire inflator
  1. Step 1

Pack at least one heavy blanket in a bright color, such as red or orange. This can be used not only for warmth if you are stranded in cold weather, but can serve as a way for you to use as a flag an indicate your location in case of emergency.

  2. Step 2

Pack several bottles of water. This will come in handy as drinking water if you get stranded in an emergency or as a way to cool off your engine or radiator if it overheats.

  3. Step 3

Pack non-perishable food. Throw in some granola bars, pop tarts, crackers, dry cereal, etc. You never know when you may need these.

  4. Step 4

Pack a first aid kit. You can buy a basic first aid kit anywhere. But then you need to customize it for your needs. If someone in the family is a diabetic, toss some glucose tabs into the first aid kit. Likewise, if anyone has allergies, make sure you include an epi pen.

  5. Step 5

Pack extra car oil and antifreeze.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you have jumper cables or a battery operated car starter. And if you choose the latter, make sure you charge and check it at least twice a year.

  7. Step 7

Buy a can of fix a flat, or some other aerosol tire inflator. In fact get two cans.
