I'm sure you have all heard of or used Hummus, but making your own to insure that it's ingredients are low in calories makes it even better! You can serve it with baby carrots, bell pepper strips, cauliflower strips, celery, or you favorite whole grain crackers.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Garbanzo Beans
  • Fat Free Yogurt
  • Lemon Juice
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  1. Step 1

In a blender combine 1 15 ounce can of Garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained. 1/2 cup of plain fat free yogurt, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 2 teaspoons olive oil, 4 garlic cloves crushed, 1 tablespoon of water, 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin. Pinch of fresh ground pepper.

  2. Step 2

Blend all of the ingredient for about a minute. You want the Hummus to be well blended but still a little chunky. You can chill it before serving.

  3. Step 3

Makes 8, 1/4 cup servings, at about 90 calories per serving. You can keep Hummus in your refrigerator for about 4 or 5 days in an airtight container.

Tips & Warnings
  • To add more flavor you can put freshly chopped cilantro, and green chilies, and blend with the rest of the ingredients. Note this will make your hummus green.
