Glass shower doors are an attractive option for enclosing a shower. However, they can develop hard water spots that do not come off with traditional cleaning methods. These spots are a combination of minerals in shower water and soap residue. Removing the spots from the glass doors requires that you use a mildly acidic solution to dissolve them. Using the cleaner on weekly basis keeps the doors sparkling and clear.
Things You'll Need
- Spray bottle
- White vinegar
- Nylon scrubbing sponge
- Lime cleaner with phosphoric acid (optional)
Fill a spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar and screw the top back on tightly. Adjust the sprayer nozzle to the widest spray pattern, not a narrow stream.
Get inside the shower so that you can access every portion of the doors. Spray the doors from top to bottom with the vinegar until they are covered. Get out of the shower and allow the vinegar to sit for approximately five minutes.
Spray a nylon scrubbing sponge with the white vinegar until it is saturated. Get back inside the tub and scrub the shower doors using a constant circular motion to dislodge any remaining residue.
Set the sponge aside and use a squeegee to remove all of the vinegar from the door and create a streak-free shine. Move the squeegee from top to bottom and then wipe the bottom of the door with a cloth to soak up the excess vinegar.
Tips & Warnings
- Instead of vinegar you can use a lime removing cleaner that contains phosphoric acid. Rinse the doors well with fresh water after letting the cleaner sit for five minutes.
