Your new dog, Buster, is stressed. You knew that purchasing Buster would be an adjustment for you, as well as for him. In addition, you could tell that Buster is stressed because he has diarrhea and won’t eat. You have also noticed that Buster is losing patches of hair and is having difficulties in sitting still. Even though you know that a stressed dog’s symptoms may vary, you have to de-stress your dog, Buster. For your information, even though step by step ways to destress a dog are listed below, you have to take into consideration what is stressing your dog. For instance, if your dog is stressed only over thunder and lightning, step one and two would only be applicable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take your dog to the vet when he is exhibiting dog stress signs. When a dog has dog stress diarrhea, his diarrhea must be controlled. The vet may give your dog probiotics to help stop the diarrhea. Probiotics for dogs help in the restoration of the gastrointestinal balance. Furthermore, taking your dog to the vet will help rule out other possibilities.

  2. Step 2

Rub your dog’s ear. Rubbing your dog’s ear in a gentle motion will help in relieving his dog stress symptoms. While rubbing your dog’s ear, you can also speak to him in a gentle, calming tone.

Exercise can also help to destress a dog. You can walk your dog in the neighborhood. You can also take your dog to a park or beach. At the beach, for example, you can throw a ball into the water and allow him to fetch and retrieve a ball. Exercise will make your dog run off the nervous energy and make him tired.

  4. Step 4

Make sure your dog maintains a healthy diet. You may give your dog probiotics supplements. Probiotics will help in keeping your dog’s immune system strong during stressful times. However, make sure you ask your vet what is best for your dog.
