Step 1
Add cayenne pepper or Tabasco sauce on top of the poop. Sprinkle it on when your dog isn’t looking. If you do this a few times, they will associate the hot spicy taste with what’s in the litter box or what they find in the yard. Chewing deterrent sprays such as bitter apple can also help.
-
Step 2
Pick up and discard any poop as soon as it happens. If you remove it and they don’t see it, they can’t eat it.
-
Step 3
Keep your dog active. Some dogs eat poop because they are bored. Take your dog for a long walk every day or play fetch with your dog until he is tired. Buy and rotate toys to stave off boredom.
-
Step 4
Give your dog a multivitamin. Sprinkle his food with a multivitamin made especially for dogs. Some dogs eat poop because they are lacking in certain vitamins or minerals.
-
Step 5
Buy an additive at a pet store made especially for poop eaters such as Forbid. Add it into to their food to deter a poop eater.
