Potluck dinners have been popular for generations. They are a wonderful way for a group of friends or church members to get together and enjoy a meal without spending a lot of money. Here are some ideas on what to choose as your potluck dinner item.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • vegetable soup
  • stuffed onion
  • crusted meatloaf
  • chicken pot pie
  • apple cider ham
  • sausage and sweet potato casserole
  • coconut fruit salad
  • rolls and bread
  1. Step 1

If you are on a tight budget, then prepare a large pot of vegetable soup. Potatoes are cheap and filling. They can also be stretched by cutting them in very small pieces.

  2. Step 2

Stuffed onions are another delicious potluck item that can be prepared easily and cheaply. The link to the recipe is in the Resources section at the bottom of the page.

  3. Step 3

If it is your turn to bring a meat item, then choose crusted meatloaf, chicken pot pie, apple cider ham, or sausage and sweet potato casserole. These are all inexpensive dishes that will serve several people at a potluck dinner. The links to the recipes are in the Resources section.

  4. Step 4

Choose one of several vintage coconut fruit salads that are quick and easy to prepare. Fruit salads are quite popular at potluck dinners. Coconut adds some crunch to the fruit. The link to the recipe is in the Resources section.

  5. Step 5

Bake rolls or a loaf of bread for your potluck dinner item . Today's bread machines make easy work of baking bread. If you will be making rolls, use the bread machine to knead the dough and then let it rise in a bowl. The rolls will be lighter and fluffier rather than rising in a small bread machine pan.
