Cross country skiing is great fun! This article give you some basics!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skies
  • Ski poles
  • Ski shoes
  • Ski waxes
  1. Step 1

The first thing is to wax the skies. There are two types of waxes: for clide and for grip. Each have a variety of product for different temperatures. Before applying wax you need to scrape off old wax. The clide is added to the ends of the skies along the whole width. The grip is added to a foot length just bellow the center of gravity. This will keep you slipping when you kick.

After waxing use a cork blog to smooth the wax surface for an even surface.

Most new waxes don't require a heated iron to melt and apply the wax, but some do. Check before buying.

  2. Step 2

Wear warm clothes, but remember that you will get warm fat so do not put too much on. Multiple layers is always the best bet, so you can adjust to the temperature.

  3. Step 3

The two basic kicks are the traditional and the clide. In the traditional you keep the skies in the tracks and out either push with both poles rhythmically or you kick with alternating legs. In the clide you position the skies pointing out ward and you kick with alternating feet using the edge of the ski using the poles simultaneously. In the clide alternating weight to the cliding foot is important.
