How many times have you needed a gift bag, but had tons of wrapping paper? You can put all this left over wrapping paper to good use and make your own gift bags. Making your own gift bags will save you money and trips to the store. Here are the steps to take to make your own wrapping paper gift bags.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wrapping paper
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • acid free glue stick
  • ruler
  • book or box the size you want the bottom of the bag to be
  • string or ribbon for the handle.
  1. Step 1

Unroll or unfold your wrapping paper and make it as flat as possible before beginning. Once flat, measure two squares or rectangles for your bag. Allow 2 inches extra for the bottom of each piece and 1/2 extra on both sides of each piece, for the side of the bags. Cut these out

  2. Step 2

Measure in 1/2 an inch on both sides and fold. Measure in 2 inches on the bottom of each piece and fold. Using your glue stick, place glue along one side of the sheet of wrapping paper and fold the other piece of wrapping side over it. Do this on both sides of the wrapping paper to make the sides of the bag. Let the glue dry. Make sure that the ends of the wrapping paper that you measured 2 inches in on are both at the bottom of the bag when you glue the sides together.

  3. Step 3

You will now have two open ends. The sides with the creases will be the bottom. If you have a book or box that you can place inside, this will make folding the bottom easier. Place the box or book inside and "wrap" the box to create the bottom. Instead of using tape, you will use the glue stick to attach the bottom together. Let the glue dry and carefully slide the box out of the top of the bag.

  4. Step 4

If you want to add a handle, lay the bag down on one side using your string measure two pieces the desired length. Cut these and with one attach to the inside of the bag to make a loop. Do this on both sides of the bag. Attach these with the glue stick and if there is left over wrapping paper, cut very small squares and glue them over the ends of the string inside the bag.

  5. Step 5

    That's it, your done!

Tips & Warnings
  • Use books to flatten your paper. Also, use them to make sharp creases when you are folding the wrapping paper.
  • Make sure the glue is always fry before using so that the bag does not fall apart.
