How to say in Ukrainian: Hello & Goodbye

Since the independence of Ukraine in 1991, more and more people are visiting Ukraine on business and as tourists. In 1212 Ukraine & Poland will host the European Soccer Championship games and Ukraine will be flooded with tourists. Knowing a few basics will be helpful.

1. Hello in Ukrainian is very easy. It is Hallo pronounced Haallo. You would say Haa as in Baa Baa Sheep. Even if you say Hello people will understand. No sweat.

2. Goodbye is a little more difficult. Goodbye in Ukrainian is DOH-POH-BAA-TCHENYA. The ENYA is pronounced like the ENYA, the pop singer.

3. That's all there is to it! Practice and remember and try it out in Ukraine.Brand name hotels in the major cities are plentiful but tend to be expensive catering to the "noveau riche". However, there are many new less known hotels/motels that are reasonably priced if not cheap,ie; $75 to $125 per night. Good luck!
