Even homeschooled children need school supplies at the beginning of each school year. The trick is finding the supplies you need at a price you can afford.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pens
  • Paper
  • Art Paper
  • Crayons
  • Colored Pencils
  • Glue
  • Paints
  • Supply Box
  1. Step 1

Always shop armed with a supply list before you go to a retail store. This will help you avoid buying on impulse. For the best prices, shop after Labor Day and save big on clearance items.

  2. Step 2

Shop the thrift stores. Find out when they get their deliveries each week and then shop early that day. This is a great place to find used curriculum books, videos, CD's and science equipment.

  3. Step 3

Check out end of summer garage and yard sales, especially the community sales. You'll find lots of used books and maybe an occasional microscope or chemistry set at these sales.

  4. Step 4

Visit your local Cooperative Extension office for free resources you can use in your classroom. If you haven't already joined 4-H, consider doing so as an independent homeschool group so you may borrow kits and equipment, such as an incubator, for your classroom.

  5. Step 5

Local libraries are great places to find used books for sale, including many curriculum and textbooks. You may also borrow classroom kits at many libraries and their public computers can be used for free!
