How to Update iTunes Album Artwork


A nice feature of iTunes is to the ability to display the album artwork on your screen while the music is playing. Most of the songs you download from the Internet or copy from CDs already have the album art. Occasionally, some of the album art it missing. You can instruct iTunes to search for it, or you can find an image on the Internet and attach it to an album or song.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod
  • iTunes
  • Computer
  • Launch iTunes on your computer. Click "Music" in the left navigation panel to display all the songs and albums in your music library.

  • Right-click on a song that is missing album artwork. Click "Get Album Artwork" in the pop-up menu. ITunes searches the Internet and downloads the album artwork to your song if it locates it.

  • Click on the "Advanced" menu in iTunes and select "Get Album Artwork" from the drop-down menu if several songs are missing album art. ITunes scans the Internet for album art for all the songs are missing it. If iTunes cannot locate art for an album or song, an alert window appears.

  • Open your Web browser and search for artwork you can use for album art. Download the art file to your computer desktop.

  • Right-click on a song in iTunes that is missing artwork. Click "Get Info" and select the "Artwork" tab to display an empty white box or a box with a picture that is not the album cover you desire. If the box is empty, click "Add" to select the photo you downloaded from the Internet. If the box already has a picture in it, click on the picture and click the "Delete" button below the box.

Tips & Warnings

  • This will take time to update artwork on all of the songs.
