How to Find Jeans that Flatter a Plus Size
Jeans shopping can be difficult, but not impossible, if you're plus-size, if you know what to look for. Take stock of your figure strengths and weaknesses so you know what you would like to hightlight and what you'd like to hide. When you shop, try on a size above and a size below the number you think you are to account for differences among manufacturers. Ultimately go for fit, not the size on the tag.

1
Pick dark wash or black jeans for your basics. Dark colors are more slimming. If you go for colors, pick rick ones, such as red, as opposed to pastels, such as pink.
-
2
Choose straight leg, wide leg or boot-cut jeans to balance out your hips. Avoid tapered jeans, which create a triangle whose wide base is right at your hips.

3
Find jeans with simple, unadorned pockets. If you need a boost on your backside, go for smaller pockets with buttons. If you need to minimize your bum, pick bigger, flatter pockets. Avoid any type of embellishments.
-
4
Buy styles with a mid-rise, where the waistband reaches to just below your navel. This rise will support your tummy, preventing muffin top, but won't constrain your breathing the way high-rises might.
-
5
Buy jeans with a bit of Spandex or Lycra so that they keep their shape.
-
6
Tailor jeans that fit generally well but have a minor flaw. For example, if you have a small waist and wide hips, fit your hips and have the waist taken in. If your petite, have your jeans hemmed.

When you find a style you like, buy more than one, if you can afford it.
