Step 1
The first step in keeping your iTunes library organized is to create playlist folders.
Open iTunes on your computer. In the bottom left-hand corner of your iTunes Library is a plus sign. Click on the plus sign. A small tab will appear on the left hand side titled "Untitled Playlist". Your iTunes library will go to a blank library. Type a title for your playlist by any genre or category you want (ex. 80's Classics, 90's Rock, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Comedy). Repeat this step for every playlist folder you want to maintain. You can have song playlist, video playlist, podcast playlist. The more playlist you have in your iTunes library, the easier it will be to keep your iTunes library organized. -
Step 2
The second step in keeping your iTunes library organized is to identify all of the songs, videos, podcasts by categories.
Go to the iTunes library. Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and select the songs, videos, podcasts that pertain to the playlist you created. For example, if you created a "Dance" playlist then hold down the control key and select every dance song in your library. Continue holding down on the control key until you have selected all songs. You can also search all of your iTunes playlist by typing the word in the search box located in the upper right hand corner. For example, you could type "Dance" and every song, video, podcast with the word "dance" in it will appear in the list. Review the list. A podcast on healthy eating might have the word dance it in due to the artist name. Select every song that you want to include in the 'dance' playlist. -
Step 3
The last step to keeping your iTunes library organized is to move all of the songs, videos, podcasts in to the new playlist you created.
After you have selected all of the songs, you want to drag all of them over to the new playlist you created. Use your mouse to move all the songs over. All of your songs will now copy over to the new playlist. When you sync your iPod, all of the new playlist will appear with the songs, videos, podcasts.
