How to Fully Degrease a Bicycle chain

This method is the most complete and easiest way to fully degrease a bicycle chain; it is far superior to trying to clean a chain while still on the bike with a toothbrush and degreaser!

Use your chain tool as instructed to reTmove one of the pins from the chain (but not completely) just enough so you can remove the chain from the frame of the bike. If your chain appears to have a master link (a link that looks different) you will not need a chain tool).

Place the chain in a jar of gasoline (properly marked as such) and simply leave the chain in it overnight. That's it.

Simply rinse chain off thoroughly and dry it and re-install the chain back on the bike ready to be properly lubricated with wet or dry lube.

Things You'll Need:

  • A chain removal tool
  • small jar with lid
  • small portion of gasoline
  1. Step 1

    You will need to remove chain from bike

  2. Step 2

    Soak chain overnight in small jar of gasoline

  3. Step 3

    Re-attach the chain back on bike

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your contained jar of gasoline and properly stored away from children's hands and is labeled and tightly secure for the overnight process.
