Things You'll Need:
- Pure soap
- Ice
- Calamine lotion
- Water
- Cucumber
- Oatmeal
-
Step 1
Quit touching it. You know it's there, quit feeling it every fifteen minutes. If we're going to get rid of it, hands off. Acne blemishes spread quickly into irritated tissue. By poking and prodding, you can disturb the delicate tissue surrounding the blemish, making it worse.
-
Step 2
Wash your face with an unscented soap. Ivory or Castile are good choices because they do not contain added fragrances that can exacerbate an acne outbreak. Avoid facial scrubs right now. Although these products have their place in an ongoing acne treatment regimen, when you have a blemish, they can do the same thing that picking does, irritate the surrounding tissues. Instead, wash your skin only with your fingertips and splash on tepid water to rinse. No rubbing. No scrubbing.
-
Step 3
Cool that blemish down. Wrap an ice cube in a paper towel and hold it on the blemish for five minutes, every hour. Make sure the ice, itself, does not touch your skin. It should feel comfortably cool and as the ice cube melts, the paper towel may become damp. Do not press the ice cube into the blemish. This acne home remedy works best if you repeat it six or more times per day.
-
Step 4
Dab a bit of calamine lotion on the blemish before going to bed. Like over-the-counter acne medications that contain benzoyl peroxide, calamine lotion absorbs excess skin oils and soothes reddened, inflamed tissues.
-
Step 5
Let your skin breath. When you have a blemish, moisturizers and makeup won't help heal the situation. In fact, they could make it worse if they contain pore-blocking ingredients. This is not the time to switch to new products, however. Just go bare-faced as much as you can.
-
Step 6
Drink lots of water. Your body is designed to heal every ailment and with acne, that means flushing toxins through your system quickly. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip all day long.
-
Step 7
Ditch the steak or hamburger. You may be safe with a bite of chocolate, but foods that are high in iodine, like beef, liver and seafood can trigger an acne outbreak or prolong a current one. Because of this, avoid eating salty foods, as well. Most salt is treated with iodine. Eating your food without iodized salt is an excellent long-term acne home remedy.
-
Step 8
Use a cucumber compress. A slice of fresh cucumber, placed on the blemish for fifteen minutes will cool and promote healing in the surrounding tissues. If you have more than one blemish. Liquefy ½ cucumber in the blender with 1 tablespoon of oatmeal and process until smooth. Slather on the formulation as an acne-reducing mask and relax for up to one hour before rinsing thoroughly.
