How to extract high quality audio from a YouTube video

In a previous article, I should you how to easily download the audio from any YouTube video. The catch was that the video was low quality. That's fine for simple projects but if you want to take that audio on the go with an mp3 player you're going to want something of higher quality. With a little extra effort you can get that high quality audio. And it won't cost you a dime.

• AoA Audio Extractor

Instructions

1. To begin, download and install AoA Audio Extractor. It's a freeware program that allows you to extract audio from various video formats as either an MP3, WAV or AC3. You can download a copy for free at http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm. All you need is the freeware version for this.

2. Now that you've installed AoA Audio Extractor you need your source material. Browse YouTube.com for the video you want to retrieve the audio from. When you find it, copy the url (it begins with http://). Now open up http://www.keepvid.com. On KeepVid, you want to download the YouTube video as either an MP4 or FLV file (I highly recommend MP4). Choose a path and a name for the file and download it.

3. Once you've finished downloading the YouTube video, open up AoA Audio Extractor. Once it's open click on Add Files so you can browse for the video you just downloaded. You can open a variety of video files using AoA. Once your video is loaded it's time to choose output options. I prefer to keep the settings at their default (MP3, 128 kbps Audio Bitrate, 48000 Audio Sample Rate, and Stereo Channel) but you can feel free to tweak these setting however you like. Once you're comfortable with the settings, click on the Browse button to designate a path for your audio. Once that's done click Start to begin extracting the audio. That's it! Enjoy your audio.
