On the surface, Chinese food seems healthy enough. Chinese food, whether it's at a family restaurant, a chain fast food place, or Chinese take-out, can be healthy. But choosing the wrong things to eat can turn a healthy meal into one that's hundreds of calories and filled with fat and grease.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stay away from anything fried. Wontons, fried rice, and chow mein are all heavy in oils and fats. Egg rolls are often deep fried, and so are some dumplings.

  2. Step 2

Order plenty of vegetables, but make sure they are steamed or cooked in a wok, and not fried. Chinese brocolli and green beans are especially good and healthy choices at Chinese restaurants.

  3. Step 3

Order chicken or beef, but do not order anything that comes with heavy sauces. General Pao's Chicken is especially fattening, as is anything that comes as "sweet and sour." Instead, order baked chicken or chicken made in a wok.

  4. Step 4

Order Chinese soups. These are generally healthy. Chinese soups like dumpling soup is mostly broth and vegetables.

  5. Step 5

Order brown rice instead of white rice or fried rice.
