You are going to be in your dorm room a lot so it makes sense to get dorm decorations on a budget. Use the dorm room decorating ideas in this article to make your dorm room stand out.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Pick Out Colors You Love

Do you want an all pink room this semester or all black? Are you a stripes person or a polka dot person? Pick a color scheme that completely appeals to you and that you can see yourself living with for (at least) a semester.

  2. Step 2

Purchase Bedding in Your Color Scheme

One of the easiest ways to change the look of your room is by changing the color of your bedding. Pick out a duvet in your color of choice and add pillow covers in that color scheme. Be creative. You could choose to go with striped bedding and polka dot pillow covers. Give in to your creative side. You can buy bedding on a budget at stores like Target, Walmart and TJMaxx.

  3. Step 3

    Buy Some Multi-functional Pieces

You are going to need storage in your dorm room so keep that in mind if you pick up anything that remotely resembles furniture. Try to go for something that is multi-functional. Pick out a small chest that you can use as a coffee table or as seating as well as storage. Consider a cheaper bean bag chair that is the color of your bedding and acts as both a decorative piece and something to sink into and relax in.

  4. Step 4

    Use Your Pictures To Decorate

Get and assortment of frames at a discount store and frame some of your favorite photographs. Put them close to each other on one wall to create a wall decoration for your dorm room. You can decide to go with a theme (a place you traveled to or a family event) or just go with a cluster of your favorite pictures. Pick out some posters, maps or signs to decorate another wall on a budget.

  5. Step 5

    Buy Some Plants

Pretty plants are a great cheap way to decorate a dorm room. Make sure you get plants that are fairly hardy and will survive being inside with the level of sunlight in your room. Make sure that you are ready to water your plants every day before you decide to purchase plants.

  6. Step 6

    Decorate Your Trash Can

Decorating your dorm room on a budget is all about being creative. Get some contact paper in the color of your choice and stick it onto your trash can. Glue on pictures, shapes, or stickers that you like onto your contact paper background. Make sure that this matches back to the color scheme of your room.

  7. Step 7

Pick out Some Colorful Containers and Lamps

You are going to need pencil holders a laundry hamper or bag, a container for all your bathroom essentials and you will also be tempted to get some plastic crates for other odds and ends. When you purchase these keep in mind that they will be accessorizing your room as well. Purchase colors that aren’t matchy matchy but work back to the rest of your color scheme. If you need lamps, keep them a neutral color like the color of your walls if you can't find something that matches your color scheme.

  8. Step 8

Get one Rug that Matches Your Color Scheme

Use a rug to pull together your whole room. Now that you have your bedding, plants and decorated walls, pick out one rug that will pull together all the colors in your room and complete the look. Dorm decorations are easy to do on a budget if you keep the look of your whole room in mind.
