Have you ever deleted the recycle bin from the desktop, using Vista?
I was trying to empty the recycle bin on Vista and I clicked on the wrong thing and it deleted the recycle bin icon from the desktop.
Here is how to retrieve the recycle bin. (And other tips.)

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Retrieve the deleted recycle bin, while using Vista: Place the cursor on a blank spot on the desktop screen.

  2. Step 2

Right click the mouse and choose "personalize" from the drop down menu.

  3. Step 3

When the box opens up, look to the left column(under tasks)and choose "change desktop icons".

  4. Step 4

When the next box opens, you will see a list of desktop icon titles. Some boxes are checked, some are not. Put a check in the boxes of icons you wish to display on the desktop. In this case, it will be the recycle bin.

To empty the recycle bin, you would right click the mouse on the recycle bin icon, click on "empty recycle bin".

To make a little more space on your hard drive, you can go into the recycle bin to do this, too. If you have a smaller hard drive (20, 40, 60 GB), you may not want to do this, as it may cause errors if the recycle bin gets full (without you realizing it), and it can be annoying. If you have a bigger hard drive, you can change the amount of space that is set up for the recycle bin's emptying. Right click on the recycle bin icon, choose properties. (Vista) You will see "Custom size"
Maximum size (MB): and the numbers in the box to the right of that. You can change those numbers and then click "apply". My numbers say 13448. I can change that to 10000 and then click "apply". It is not recommended to check or uncheck any boxes in there, especially the ones that says "Do not move files to recycle bin". Sometimes, we delete files and they go to the recycle bin, but we may want them back. If we set it to automatically delete them, they are gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • To find other solutions for troubleshooting with Vista, click on the start icon, look to the right, lower section of that panel that opens, and choose help and support.
  • From there, you can do a search, using keywords, to find other solutions.
