Is your child a 4-H member, but is not sure how to take full advantage of the opportunities 4-H offers? With a little effort in keeping up with the vast variety of activities, 4-H can be a rewarding experience that fosters fond memories members will cherish well into adulthood. Being an active 4-H member makes the experience extra rewarding.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To stay active in 4-H, read all communications sent out by the county 4-H office and your key leaders. Check the calendar in the communications to see what activities you have time to take part in.

  2. Step 2

If you have questions about the activities, contact either your Key Leader, or the 4-H office. They should be able to give your more information or will let you know who can help you out.

  3. Step 3

Be willing to try something new. That is what 4-H is about. Learning new things and meeting new people.

  4. Step 4

If you do not see activities scheduled for an area of interest you have, consider sponsoring one for either your club or the county. This can be a rewarding and educational experience.

Commit yourself to showing projects at the fair. Set a goal to meet and work towards it. Showing 8-12 projects at the fair is a reasonable goal to start out with.

  5. Step 5

It is also helpful to have parents who volunteer for 4-H. By volunteering, parents can learn about opportunities that they may not otherwise pay much attention to. This would make a difference in how active a child is in the organization.

    Most importantly, have fun!

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a great family activity. One of the best experiences from 4-H comes from working closely on projects as a family.
