Things You'll Need:
- rectangle piece of fabric big enough to go half way around you from side to side
- piece of material at least 3" wide and long enough to go around your waist and tie
- thread
- scissors
- scrap material for pockets
- tape measure
-
Step 1
Take your rectangle piece of fabric and hem down both sides and then along the bottom. Fold your fabric over 1/4" or the width of the presser foot on your sewing machine. Fold over again the same way. This will give you a nice hem. Do this down the sides of the rectangle fabric and then do it across the bottom. Set this piece aside for now.
-
Step 2
Take the long strip of fabric for the tie and fold it in half long ways. You may want to iron this so you can see the center of the fabric. Open the fold and take each side and fold over to meet the center crease. Iron down both sides. Next fold your fabric in half just like you did the first time. Take the end of your tie and fold inward to hide the raw edge of the material. Iron down. You should end up with a nice piece of fabric with no raw or frayed edges.
-
Step 3
Take your tie you just finished and place the top of the rectangle inside your folded tie back so that on the front and back of the rectangle you have a nice edge. Pin in place. Start from one end of the tie back and sew down the open edge all along and across the pinned rectangle to the other end of the tie back.
-
Step 4
Now take your scrap fabric for pockets and fold each edge under 1/4" and iron to hold down. Sew across the top of the pocket. Pin in place where you want them on the front side of your apron. Next, sew down both sides of the pocket and across the bottom. Don't sew the top of the pocket closed. You can add as many pockets as you need.
-
Step 5
Now you have a finished apron! You can put your scissors, paints, chalk, note pad and pens, or whatever you are working on, in your pockets. Everything you need will be at your finger tips.
