Step 1
Make sure the solid food you purchase is appropriate for your baby. Just because you eat it does not mean the food is appropriate for your baby. For example, don’t feed your baby foods that are spicy, sugary, high in fat and salt, and stringy.
-
Step 2
Purchase a logbook or notebook. Note in it the date, time, and type of solid food that you gave your baby. It is really best though, if you start with one solid food at a time. Feeding your baby one food at a time will let you know if your child is displaying any allergic reactions to that particular food. After about a week, you can add an additional solid food.
-
Step 3
Spread paper or a plastic mat on the floor where you will place the baby’s highchair. This will help you in keeping your floor clean.
-
Step 4
Put a bib around your baby’s neck after strapping him or her into the high chair. Make sure the bib is large, for a large bib will help protect your baby’s clothes.
-
Step 5
Feed your baby with a baby spoon, not a regular teaspoon. Use the kind of padded baby spoon that is small enough to easily fit into your baby’s mouth with a long handle.
-
Step 6
Feed your baby slowly. Let him or her get used to the texture and taste of the solid food. Remember – this is a new experience for your baby, so make it a good one by not rushing or getting upset if your baby spits the food out.
