With the economy in a downturn many people both young and older are going back to school to get more formal training and education. If you are one of these people you should know that there are several ways that you can get tuition assistance, tuition reimbursement and even free money to take college classes and training classes.

1. If you are currently employed, ask your company's Human Resources department if the company offers tuition reimbursement or tuition assistance. many companies do offer this and if yours doesn't then propose it as a suggestion.

2. Look for scholarships and grants. Most people assume that these don't apply to older students, but they are wrong. Almost no college grant or scholarship specifies an age so apply for any that you meet the qualifications for.

3. If you are unemployed contact your local Department of Labor to see if you qualify for any retraining money. This is money that states have designated to provide to unemployed individuals to retrain for a new industry or job.
