Step 1
Determine the Material
This is usually listed on the tag on the garment. If the clothing is made of rayon, acetate, or triacetate do not use the rubbing
alcohol or nail polish remover.
Also be sure to test any chemicals in a small test area to be sure the material can handle it. -
Step 2
Use a Towel
Place a white towel under or between the article of clothing before cleaning. If for example, the stain is on a front of a shirt of blouse, but the towel in between the front and the back of the blouse so the stain does not bleed through to the back while you are attempting to clean the front. -
Step 3
Start With Hair Spray
Spraying hair spray on the stain can help break up the stain. Spray the spot liberally, wait 30 minutes and then gently dab the spot with a sponge that has been soaked in cool water. If you see a lot of the stain is coming out, wait a few minutes, spray with hair spray again and repeat the dabbing. (Don't forget testing area first.) -
Step 4
ry Plain Unscented Fingernail Polish Remover
Another method to get rid of ink stains from clothes is trying plain nail polish remover. (Again, remember to test area).
Just like above, saturate the stain with the remover, let sit for 30 minutes, then dap with a cool damp sponge. -
Step 5
Use Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl Alcohol)
A third method you can try is using rubbing alcohol. Again the same method as mentioned above. Saturate stain with the alcohol, let sit for 30 minutes, dap gently with cool wet sponge. -
Step 6
Give White Vinegar a Try
White Vinegar is a great thing to have around the house due to its many uses. One of those uses is for removing ink stains.
Simply pour about a teaspoon of vinegar directly on the stain and allow to rest for approximately 10 minutes. Then put a drop or two of liquid dishwashing detergent on the stain and gently rub in with your fingers. (Not too hard or too much - you do not want to over-wear fabric). Let it
sit for another 5 minutes and then rinse under cool water while still gently rubbing the spot with your fingers. -
Step 7
Try WD-40
WD-40 is not only great for removing oil and grease but it can also work on ink stains. Simply spray it on the stain, wait a few minutes and rinse. (Once again, remember to test area.)
