Step 1
Clean and pack the baby clothes and gears for donations. When packing the clothes separate them into size and type categories (ex. tops, bottoms, blankets, gears). Label each box with the sizes and types of baby clothes. This will make it easier to donate the right clothes and gears where they are needed the most. Also, separate the new and gently used clothes from the older ones, some organizations only accept new and gently used baby clothes.
-
Step 2
Contact local churches to donate your extra baby clothes and gears. Give the church a call and ask if they need baby clothes, or when are they having the next "baby shower" function. Some churches take in baby items donations all year around and others have organized baby showers two or three times a year to raise donations.
-
Step 3
Find local women shelters to give your baby clothes donations. You can find shelters on the internet or in a telephone directory. Many of the women living in temporary housing shelters also have children with them. Some of these children are in need of clothes and other items.
-
Step 4
Look for local branches of non profit organizations such as the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and smaller not for profits. These organizations take donations of all types including baby clothes and baby gears all year long. These items are later donated and sometimes sold at discounted prices.
-
Step 5
Use word of mouth to donate extra baby clothes. Ask your friends, coworkers and family members if they know of expecting mothers that have a need for baby clothes and baby gears. Keep in mind that when donations are made to individuals these may not be tax deductible.
-
Step 6
Obtain and keep your donation receipts for tax deductions. When you donate to an organized not for profit organization, a church or a women shelter the value of the donated baby items may be tax deductible. Obtain a receipt signed by the receiver organization staff for your records.
