1. Enter the words "perfume" or "fragrance" in a search engine such as Google, Yahoo!, or MSN.

2. Browse the sites. If you know what brand of perfume you want, choose a site that sells a variety of perfumes from a variety of manufacturers. If you want to try something new, take a chance on a site that makes and sells its own perfumes.

3. Check to see if the site will provide samples at a small cost. This may be especially important if you are not familiar with the perfumes on the site.

4. Use the site's tools to match new scents with your wishes. Click if you are looking for something "romantic" or "casual," "flowery" or citrusy."

5. Find the perfume you want by clicking on the manufacturer's name, then the perfume name, or by picking the name of the perfume from a list.

6. Add perfume you want to your shopping "bag" or "tote." Re-check the number of ounces of perfume that are in the bottle you have chosen to be sure you are getting what you want.

7. When you have accumulated all that you want to order, proceed to checkout.

8. Fill in the shipping and payment information.

9. Before you submit your order, add up the total, including shipping and handling costs and taxes.

10. Submit your order if you are happy with the price.

• Often, you can buy men's fragrances on the same sites where women's perfumes are sold.
• To avoid international postage, order from a domestic perfume site if possible.
• It is generally not a good idea to buy perfume as a gift unless you know the recipient's favorite fragrance before you buy.
