Step 1
This first step is to get a copy of your credit report. There are a number of websites that can do it for free if you fill out and sign up for several items. One of them is freecreditreport You can also have your lender run your credit score as well. Once you get a copy of your credit report look at who has given you late notices or sent you to collections. They should have contact information for each one.

Step 2
Contact the companies that have given you a fail to pay. Start with the worst first (90 days or more without payment) and finish up with the easier ones (30 days late). When contacting the companies be respectful but do not take no for an answer. Speak with a manager if necessary. If you have to pay fees I suggest you do so as you will save money on interest rates in the long run. Make sure you contact everyone on your credit report who flagged you with a 30 day or greater late payment and work out an arrangement.

After you have workout an arrangement with each of the bad reports you will need to wait 30-45 days to run a new report. You will see that most of the bad credit reports on your account are removed or are upgraded to a lesser violation.

Recommendations to keep improving your credit score are to pay all bills timely. Paying your credit card bills keeps you in good standing with the company and increases your credit score. Payingoff home, car and personal loans is also a way to get major points on a credit score. Paying a loan in full is proving that you are capable of taking care of debt. If done properly, within a year you should have your credit score repaired.
