MSN accounts were formerly known as Hotmail and MSN Hotmail, and an MSN account is now known as Windows Live Hotmail. In order to create a new MSN account you must create a Windows Live ID. This is a simple process that involves creating a user name and password. If you already have an MSN account and you want to create a new one, you can delete your old account or create a second account with a different user name and password.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start to create a Hotmail account by going to the Windows Live ID website (see Resources). Click on the "Get started now" option under the "Sign up for a free MSN Hotmail account" heading.

  2. Step 2

Choose your country from the drop-down menu and type the name you want for your account in the "E-mail address" field. If the name isn't available, a message next to the field will let you know that you need to create a new user name. After you create your user name, create a case-sensitive password.

  3. Step 3

Select a question from the drop-down menu and then type in an answer. For example, choose a question like, "What is your mother's maiden name?" that you know you'll be able to remember. Enter an alternate email address.

  4. Step 4

Enter the information that is required in each field, including your name and interests. Type the characters that are shown in the text box at the bottom of the screen. Read all of the information provided in the Terms of Use and then click on the "I Accept" option. Click on the "Continue" button.

  5. Step 5

Go to the MSN main page and click on the "Sign in" option on the left side of the screen. You now can customize your new MSN account, and send and receive email.
