Cigarillos are tobacco products bridging the gap between cigars and cigarettes. Cigarillos are skinny and shorter than cigars. They resemble cigarettes but are wrapped in tobacco like cigars rather than paper like cigarettes. Cigarillos may come with or without filters, and filters are usually found as plastic mouthpieces.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cigar or cigarillo wrapping tobacco
  • Pouch tobacco for rolling cigars and cigarettes
  • Square-shaped food container
  • Food scales
  1. Step 1

Purchase the rolling tobacco leaf that will be used to encase the shredded tobacco leaves that will fill the cigarillo later. The rolling leaves can be found at most stores that sell tobacco products. Tobacco specialty stores will have them in stock when gas stations do not. Rolling tobacco leaves can be found in various flavors, like cherry, watermelon and strawberry.

  2. Step 2

Unwrap the package and place the rolling leaf on a flat surface such as a table. The cigarillo or cigar wrapping tobacco will usually come already curled into a circle for neater-looking cigarillos. If the tobacco leaf comes flat, it will still work but may make more misshapen cigarillos.

  3. Step 3

Place the square-shaped container on a food scale and press the reset button so that the container is not measured while measuring the tobacco. Pinch pre-shredded smoking tobacco out of the pouch it was packaged in and place in the square-shaped container.

  4. Step 4

Measure out approximately 3 grams of shredded tobacco; this is the approximate amount held in most cigarillos. Hold the wrapping leaf open with two fingers on one hand, and use the other hand to pour the 3 grams of shredded tobacco into the wrapping leaf. The square shaped container makes pouring easier. If the wrapping tobacco leaves you purchased were not pre-curled, you may remedy this by cupping the leaf or by creasing it in the middle.

  5. Step 5

Press the shredded tobacco into the cigarillo wrapper. Start at one end, which will later be the mouthpiece, and move to the other end. The mouthpiece end will be neater and tighter than the other end. Press the tobacco in, working from one end to the other and stretch the tobacco wrapping leaf as you press.

  6. Step 6

Stop when you have enough tobacco wrapping leaf left to fit completely around the shredded tobacco and overlap onto itself. At this point, lick the loose end of the cigarillo lightly and press and hold allowing the wrapping leaf to stick to itself. Continue licking and sticking until the entire cigarillo is wrapped tight. After being left a minute or two to dry, the cigarillo is ready to smoke.

Tips & Warnings
  • After you have perfected the art or rolling your own cigarillo, you using the scales and square-shaped container is not necessary.
