How to Open an HP Ink Cartridge

Modern ink cartridges are made for one use and disposal. Some can be refilled using refill kits. This only requires peeling back a sticker to expose the refill holes.Opening the entire HP ink cartridge is more difficult and requires tools.

Instructions

1. Prepare a clean workspace Remove the printer cartridge from the printer.

2. Peel back the sticker on top of the cartridge to reveal one to three holes. Use these holes to refill the cartridge with ink if desired.

3. To further disassemble the cartridge, you will need a a sharp, sturdy tool. Pry off the top of the cartridge by inserting a knife or other tool into the crevice and prying upward.

4. Once the cap is pried off, you can remove the sponge that holds the ink if desired. Wear gloves to avoid making a mess of your hands.
