How to Amend a 2006 Return With Turbotax Online
Amended returns are filed to correct any significant errors on your original tax return. Minor errors such as incorrect math calculations and certain schedules left out are not significant. These can be corrected by IRS staff. However, if there is an error in your filing status, income information, deductions or credits claimed or due you, you will need to file an amended return. You can file an amended return claiming a refund within three years of the initial deadline or within two years of paying the tax. You can file a return to amend your 2006 return with TurboTax. Log into your TurboTax Online account and get the PDF copy of your previously filed return. If you do not already have a TurboTax account or if you did not file your 2006 return with TurboTax, you may be better off filing your amended return manually or using the online product you used in filing your 2006 return.

Get access to the 2006 version of the software. The calculations and forms used in filing tax returns within TurboTax are year-specific, meaning that you will need to use TurboTax 2006 to amend a 2006 return. Correct the necessary errors. Go to the portion on amending a return and input the correct information. TurboTax will automatically fill in your basic information and any corrections on an IRS Form 1040X to amend a previously filed 1040, 1040A, 1040-EZ, 1040EZ-T, 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ.

Print your amended return and mail it to the IRS. You should receive your refund, if you are due one, within 12 weeks of the IRS receiving your amended return.
