How to Make Web Pages Open Faster

Website display and refresh rates are especially slow on slow Internet connection speeds such as with dial-up connections. Unless you have a broadband Internet service, browsing the Internet can be a little difficult especially in this day when most websites are using high-resolution flash and videos. However, there are some simple things you can do to make web pages open faster. While the speeds will not be to the level of broadband connections, it will make a big difference.

  • Clear the browser cache, history and temporary files that cause pages to slow down. This feature may vary depending on the web browser you are using but can generally be found under "Tools" or "Internet Options."

  • Disable graphics and other multimedia devices that cause slowdowns on web pages. To do this, click the Windows "Start" button and click the "Control Panel."

  • Double-click "Internet Options" and click the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to Multimedia and remove the check from the following categories: play animations in Web pages, play sounds in Web pages, play videos in Web pages, show pictures. Click "OK" to save the changes.

  • Download and install faster web browser such as Opera or Mozilla Firefox. Compared to Internet Explorer, these web browsers have faster load and refresh times.

  • Enable the popup blocker on your web browser to prevent pop-ups and pop-unders from opening additional browser windows that slow down browser speed. Every major web browser has a pop-up blocker feature to stop pop-up advertisements.
