Step 1
Check that the carpet shampooer is connected directly to a reliable power source if you notice random shutdowns or erratic cleaning strength. While cleaning extended floor spaces, you might be tempted to use multiple extension cords. However, such connections can reduce the strength and reliability of the electrical power.
-
Step 2
Inspect the felt pads or brush on the bottom of the shampooer. Over time, the cleaning pads and brush can become worn or disintegrate. This reduces the appliance's cleaning quality. Replace if you notice that the pad is worn thin or if the brush is missing large chunks of its bristles. To remove, push down on the gear in the middle of the brush or felt pad.
-
Step 3
Make sure you press down firmly on the dispensing trigger on the shampooer's shaft if you notice random dry spots on your carpet. This ensures an even and adequate application of cleaning product and water.
-
Step 4
Rinse out the reservoir tank if you find that it emits strange smells while shampooing or steaming the carpet. Twist the plastic ring on top of the tank to loosen it, and lift up and away from the Hoover shampooer. Fill with fresh, clean water, and shake thoroughly. Rinse and repeat until the fluid emitted from the tank runs clean with no bubbles.
-
Step 5
Avoid using non-Hoover approved cleaning solutions in the shampooer, such as all-purpose detergent, as this can permanently damage the appliance's mechanisms or stain your carpet. Only use Hoover shampoo products, and never overfill the reservoir tank.
