Cell phones come preset with a number of themes that users can choose from. These themes often lack the custom look and feel that individuals are after. Users have the option to design and create cell phone themes with online tools. Two such free sites that allow users to design, share and download custom themes are Zedge.net and Ownskin.com.

1. Navigate to online cell phone creator site. Two of the most popular theme creators are Ownskin.com and Zedge.net.

2. Sign up for a free account on site. Ownskin and Zedge both require users to first create an account before creating themes. If you already have an account, simply login. Once you login, you will be brought to the theme maker portion of the website.

3. Select your cell phone make and model. Make sure to select the correct phone; the theme created is dependent on specific display requirements. Begin creating theme. Select and upload an image for your phone's "Standby" and "Background." Select a "Color" for the text of your phone content. Select and upload "Ringtones" to be included in your theme. Ringtones must be in .mid, .mp3, and .aac formats.

4. Download theme to local hard drive in .SIS format.

5. Transfer theme to cell phone. Insert memory card of phone into computer or attach phone to computer with USB cable. Copy and paste .SIS theme file into the "Media Files" and then "Theme" folder. Unplug phone from computer, open up "Themes" folder from control panel on phone, select theme, and click "Apply."
