How to catch Snapping Turtles for dinner

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fishing line
  • hooks
  • stakes
  • chicken liver
  1. Step 1

First you will need to locate a pond that has some algae growing on top it doesn't have to cover the whole pond. I come to find out over the years that turtle prefer this kind of habitat. Now you must gather your fishing supplies and set 3-4 traps by pounding the stakes in the ground deep enough so the turtle can not pull out the stake and take off with with your hook.

  2. Step 2

Now start by taking your fishing string and tie a good a good slip-not around the stake's you already set in the ground. Now tie a sinker on the end and cut 1 inch piece of chicken liver and set it on the hook good so it does not fall of when you cast or pull of if a turtle latches on to it.Now cast your line out about 5 feet of shore unless the water is to shallow.

  3. Step 3

If this is the case then cast it further until its at least 3 feet deep. Now that your traps are set you can go and come back in the morning to check your traps. If you did not catch anything repeat the process the second time around if you dont find any on your line you should move on to another spot and try that spot out another time in the future. If you did catch one beware,But not frightened a Snapping Turtle has powerful jaws and can and will take your finger off.To avoid this in a safe manner after you pull the turtle to the bank with the stake you pounded in the ground. Now place your boot on top of the turtle and grab the tail and place it in something tall enough it cant escape. Then the head must be removed then the legs these are the only real meat worth anything some try to use the whole thing the body of a turtle by boiling the shell off this is a mistake its not worth the small amount of meat. Now you can make Turtle Soup.

Tips & Warnings
  • I am writing the soup recipe after this.
  • Avoid placing hand by turtle's mouth for safety alway's by the tail.
