Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Pencil or Pen
- Calculator
-
Step 1
Next time you fill your gas tank, write down your odometer mileage. Or, you can set your trip meter to zero.
-
Step 2
When you fill your tank again, record the number of gallons it took to fill the tank.
-
Step 3
Record the new odometer mileage. If you had set your trip meter to zero, simple record the number and skip to Step 5.
-
Step 4
Subtract the first odometer reading from the second odometer reading for the number of miles driven since the first fill-up.
-
Step 5
Take the number of miles driven and divide it by the number of gallons it took for the second fill-up. This is your gas mileage.
-
Step 6
Periodically check your gas mileage. If your mileage changes more than 10%, you may want to consider a tune-up.
