How to Wrap a Horse’s Leg With a Stable Wrap

Knowing how to properly wrap a stable wrap is an essential part of horse ownership. From swelling to protection to wound management, wrapping will prove useful time and again.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sheet cotton, quilted pad, no bows etc.
  • track wraps, polos
  1. Step 1

    Using sheet cotton or a quilted bandage, wrap tightly and evenly around the horse’s leg, pulling the tendons to the inside.

  2. Step 2

    Pulling the wrong way can cord the tendons, causing serious damage.

  3. Step 3

    Once the quilt or sheet cotton is on tightly with even pressure, apply a track wrap the same direction (tendons in starting in the middle and working down with even wraps.

  4. Step 4

    When you get to the fetlock cup underneath the fetlock and begin wrapping up again creating a v shape in the front of the wrap. Continue of the leg evenly and with even pressure.

  5. Step 5

    Finish the wrap by securing Velcro or diaper pins. If using pins cover with tape for safety.

  6. Step 6

    Check you work by making sure there is even distance between each wrap and feel up the horse’s leg to make sure the pressure is even.
