Step 1
OPEN AIR MARKETS:
You will find local open-air markets to be some of the best places to shop for a bargain. There are good markets available in Florence and Venice (if you happen to be traveling that part of the country). A small painting or some other remembrance of a specific place is great to purchase from these types of markets as well. -
Step 2
DESIGNER PURCHASES
If you have a larger budget to spare, you may want to shop at some of the finer Italian designer establishments in Rome or Venice. For gentlemen, setting a little money aside for a hand-tailored suit can be a worthy investment, or ladies might like to have a pair of shoes designed especially for their feet and shipped home. -
Step 3
SPEND WISELY
Save your money for lodging and dining out rather on sunglasses, tshirts and other items that you can easily purchase back home. If you are a true shopper and really had your mind set on spending on your trip, be sure to have money set aside (separate from dining and lodging) that will be just for shopping. Be sure to ask your hotel and/or your tour guides for their recommendations as well. -
Step 4
GROUP TOURS
If you will be in a group tour, be sure to ask your tour captain to set aside time for shopping and get his/her suggestions. That's what they are there for!

on 9/17/2009 Hmmm, I don't travel much. Have been to Hawaii several times and to Ecuador. Italy sounds like a fun trip. leo
