How to Make a Woven Potholder Easily
Potholder weaving is an easy and enjoyable pastime. And best of all, you can create an original, handmade item for yourself or as a gift in a very short amount of time. You can find an inexpensive potholder kit at a craft store. The kit includes a square metal or plastic loom with prongs along its edges, a crochet hook and colorful fabric loops that you stretch between the prongs to make the potholder.

1
Begin with the prong at the left bottom corner of the loom. Put a loop over the prong and use the crochet hook or your fingers to stretch the loop vertically and put it on the top prong. Continue along the bottom, stretching loops until all the bottom and top prongs are covered.

2
Stretch the first horizontal loop onto the loom. Place a stretchy loop over the bottom prong on the left side of the loom. Now comes the weaving part! Weave the loop under the first vertical loop on the loom, then weave it over the second vertical loop, and so on. Continue weaving the loop through the vertical loops until you reach the right side of the loom. Put the end of the horizontal loop over the prong.

3
Stretch the second horizontal loop, beginning from the prong just above your first horizontal loop. This time, however, start your weave by going over the first vertical loop, and then going under the second vertical loop.
-
4
Stretch the remaining horizontal loops. Remember to alternate the first weave of the loops so one goes over and the next goes under the vertical loops.
-
5
Taking the potholder off the loom by starting at a corner. Pull the second loop in the row through the first loop. Then pull the third loop through the second loop, the fourth loop through the third, and so on. Continue around the entire potholder, but leave the last loop free for hanging the potholder.
