Step 1
Lay a sheet or rolled paper onto the ground or floor underneath where you are going to paint trim. This will help to avoid drip messes and paint slops on your flooring.

Step 2
Tape the wall of the surface where you are painting house trim. If there is a wall that you absolutely do not want trim paint on, use painter's tape to protect that surface.
Right along the trim to be painted, secure the edge with the tape, and press/rub it gently in order to ensure a seal. -
Step 3
Dip the paintbrush into the trim paint and wipe it against the side of the container in order to remove any excess paint. This way, the chances of making a mess are less likely and the paint will not stain any surface or wall.

Step 4
Pull away the painter's tape when you're finished and you will have a nice clean edge for your painted trim.
