Choose a ring for its density first, then for the look. While diamonds are forever, turquoise unfortunately might not be. The stone is porous, meaning it has tiny holes in its structure that could cause it to break. Some stones are more porous than others, so you should ask the store clerk to show you only the densest stones first.

Stabilize your stone with protective finish. You can get a protective finish on all of your turquoise jewelry, which will ensure it lasts longer. The finish will also make the stone brighter and more alluring. Always remember to ask whether or not the stone you are selecting is stabilized or not.

Set the stone in a white metal. Gold or brass metal clashes with the turquoise, while silver, white gold or platinum complement the stone.

A stabilized stone will cost less than a denser stone. However, you can and should opt to stabilize a dense stone because the ring will be worn everyday and needs to be protected as much as possible.
Turquoise is softer than other stones, and it can break easily without stabilization and proper care.
Remove turquoise rings before getting into the shower or washing dishes. Water can break down the ring, especially if it is not stabilized.
