Losing your receipts can make life very difficult. Whether it be for tax purposes or to return an item you purchased from a store, having the receipt is very important. How many times have you gone to return something and the receipt is no where to be found? This eHow article will teach you how to organize, save and stop losing your receipts.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Envelopes
  • Manila Folders
  • Receipts
  1. Step 1

    ***Organize your receipts***

Immediately after a purchase, place the receipt in your wallet. At the end of the day, empty your wallet of all receipts. Throw away the receipts that you do not need. For example, you probably do not have to save a receipt for coffee. Save all the receipts in an envelope marked with the month and year.

  2. Step 2

    ***Save your receipts***

Next, determine how long you need to keep certain receipts. A good rule of thumb is to save any receipts for items over $100.00. Personally, I tape the receipts onto the item so it is close by and I don't have to search for it. I have small refrigerator in my office at work and the receipt is taped to the door.

  3. Step 3

    ***Stop misplacing receipts***

Finally, store your receipt envelopes in a manila folder. Every month you will save your receipts in an envelope. Periodically, go through these envelopes and discard the ones that are not needed. For example, you should save moving receipts, car repair receipts and major purchase receipts for at least one year.
